On the 12th March 2014, we welcomed a very special guest to the Conference Centre. As part of a wider visit to the town, HRH The Duke of Gloucester was the honoured guest at the opening of the Lingen Davies Centre – a purpose built Cancer and Haematology Unit.
The opening event was held in the foyer of the centre and was attended byover 100 guests. The day was topped off with a royal tea party where a selection of delicious freshly baked cakes were enjoyed while listening to a jazz ensemble.
The Shropshire Star, reporting on the event, commented ‘Unveiling a plaque to officially open the new, £5 million purpose built Cancer and Haematology Unit, the Duke of Gloucester said: “It’s with great gratitude that we now have this centre and the teams who know how to use it. As years go by there will be more progress and more technology but, for now, you are the cutting edge.’
